Government Island
Not sure of the date but it looks like the CGC HERMES tied up next to the causeway. She was there when I went through
boot camp in 1957.

Government Island
Not sure of this date either but the moored cutters have the racing stripe which was designed in 1964 to give the Coast
Guard a distinctive, modern image and was first used in 1967.

Recruits are no longer trained here and I believe the island has been renamed Coast Guard Island.

Look at that spit shine on the deck! This was from Company Kilo-19. Keeping them polished sure beat high porting your
M-1 rifle to the "grinder" and back.

Coast Guard Loran Station French Frigate Shoals
This station has been decommissioned for some time now but was probably considered the most undesirable isolated duties
in the Coast Guard. You can see by its size that it is very small and barely above sea level, probably no more then 300 ft
wide and 1000 long if that. 10 enlisted men and 1 officer were assigned 12 months duty!
