Bow and bridge damage to the Italian luxury liner MICHELANGELO is show in this aerial photograph taken by the U.S. Coast
Guard. High winds and heavy seas battered the 902-foot passenger vessel on April 12, 1966, during a voyage from Genoa, Italy,
to New York. Tthree persons were killed, eleven injured and numerous passengers los their footing or slammed into bulkheads

A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter hovers over the stern of the Italian liner MICHELANGELO in the Atlantic Ocean to evacuate
an injured crewman. The helicopter met the 902-foot vessel 60 miles southeast of Nantucket Island. The 23-year-old crewman
suffered a compound leg fracture and a fractured skull during a severe North Atlantic storm April 12. Three persons died
and ten others were injured aboard the liner. The helicopter took the crewman to the U.S. Public health Servic Hospital,
Brighton, Mass. (USCG)
